Patriotic Party Prepper

At the last minute we decided to have a Memorial Day party this year. As usual, I pulled about 100 ideas from Pinterest, chose 4-5 I could actually tackle and tweaked a bit. Thought it would be fun to share how those turned out.

Had one of those a-ha moments when I realized that those galvanized tubs we use for chips, servingware, etc. are actually magnetic. Between a $1 full sheet of flag and firework magnets, a $1 star garland from Dollar Tree and a fridge photo framed print of our pups in their patriotic finest, you can see how much fun I had dressing our tubs up…and now I can’t wait for the next holiday to switch things up all over again!

For the front porch, I pulled out the chalk to update our Home Depot planter with a Memorial Day theme. I found a great soldier silhouette decoration door hanger on Etsy and decided to try to draw that. Far from perfect, but you get the idea.

For food and drink, we were serving BBQ and keeping it pretty simple with beer, wine and soft drinks. But I was yet again pinspired when I saw the Patriotic Sangria recipes flying around. So, I took a stab at that and even attempted the granny smith apple stars. And with the adorable mason jar “Grillin’ and Chillin'” glasses my sister-in-law had given us for Christmas, I was able to make it fit with our BBQ theme and add a fun straw to finish it off just right.

Finally, I’d found an eagle shaped jello mold at Big Lots about eight years ago, but am not a huge jello fan, so it’s just been in the cabinet. I decided to try it out with Rice Krispy Treats. Not sure how many even realized it was an eagle (with a flag in his mouth) but the treats were a hit.

Oh, and I hit Michael’s on the day of our party and they’d already marked down all of the RWB stuff to 50%, so the sprinkles were a cheap addition!

We made this pallet flag several years ago and put it in front each Memorial Day & 4th of July.

We’re extremely lucky to live in the Home of the Free because of the Brave. It was nice to have a chance to celebrate that freedom with friends and a few fun Pinterest ideas, too!
