Once again, taking a cue from Pinterest, I decided to use the rustic window that my Dad found at an antique shop for $10, for our summer mantel. So many creative pinners inspired me by enlarging personal photos to fit into the panes, so off I went to choose one of our Yellowstone picnic pics from 2012 for the project.
Not big on staring at a giant picture of my face all summer, but looking at our feet was sort of fun-especially since it had the feel of looking out over the Lewis River on that gorgeous sunny Wyoming day.
Now, being too cheap to have it blown up into a poster size, and because none of the standard poster sizes fit my particular window, I figured out how to print sections of the pic on legal size printer paper, added a bit of tape and over the fireplace it went!

I needed more height, so Big Lots to the rescue with $7 yellow blooms to throw in the ever-handy wine magnum and the $10 family print. They also had the cute $5 blue lantern on clearance, so I threw that in for good balance on the end.
I still wanted a few pops of color, so a dried flower arrangement seemed to fit the theme and the India candle from Pier 1 clearance fit perfectly in my C&B hurricane. Oh, and Pier 1 sunflower napkin rings are always good for multi-purposing!
Fully aware that I need to guilt my husband into taking pics with our grown-up camera instead of my lame phone, but since my sister-in-law was kind enough to tell me my mantel was “Pinterest-worthy” when she visited, I decided to just throw it out there.
